Bethany in Ghana
Bethany in Ghana
We support vulnerable children and families
We’re known for setting the pace for formalized foster care and family-based care programs in Ghana. We partner with area orphanages, police officers, and hospital social workers who know they can call Bethany when they urgently need a safe place for a child.
And we work closely with UNICEF and Ghana Without Orphans to champion family-based care.
Our services
Family preservation and empowerment
The Family Preservation and Empowerment program is designed to support families and children by stabilizing heads of families and caregivers and empowering them to reach self-sufficiency. We provide families with essential nutrition, medical aid, access to education, psycho-social support, and housing needs.
Training and capacity building
We provide best practice trainings to partner organisations, childcare professionals, caregivers, and religious leaders—to build their capacity to serve vulnerable children long term.
Family Based Care
The Alternative Family Based Care (AFBC) program is designed to place children in loving homes when they are unable to return to their birth families. We work closely with the Department of Social Welfare to develop the capabilities of orphanages in child assessment, childcare and case management.
Help support Bethany’s work in Ghana
Our priority in Ghana is to keep children stable and safe with their family of origin. When that is not possible, we find local adoptive families who can provide a loving home.
